Final Thoughts Before Bed...

I'm sad to say that one of our cockatiels, the younger of two, died in my arms about an hour ago. We think he had a stroke. Poor baby. That definitely bummed us out for the rest of the night. :-(

On a lighter note, I found myself wondering this evening what the difference is between Arithmetic and Mathematics, or if there is any difference. Thank goodness for the Internet! Here's what I found (for anyone who is curious like I was):

a·rith·me·tic
(1) the branch of mathematics that deals with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division,
(2) the use of numbers in calculations

math·e·mat·ics
(1) the study of the relationships among numbers, shapes, and quantities,
(2) it uses signs, symbols, and proofs and includes arithmetic, algebra, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry.

"The most obvious difference is that arithmetic is all about numbers and mathematics is all about theory."

Good night, everyone!

  3. I am sorry about your loss of your pet bird. Losing a pet is tremendously sad. In the back of our minds we know it is going to happen someday when we take the pet, but we put that thought in a far off place.

Tell me, do you always think about such deep topics? LOL Loved that you did. I have learned something today!

  4. Grandma K,
No, I don't always think about such deep topics (thank goodness!). But sometimes, these questions just come to me, and then I HAVE to go online and find the answer ASAP (what did we ever do before the Internet came along?).
